Chapter Hall of the Museum of the Order of St John, St John’s Gate, EC1V 4JJ

Interiors from Spain presents for the first time “El Salón” at Clerkenwell Design Week, a showcase of contemporary Spanish design, curated by Tomás Alonso at the Museum of the Order of St John’s Chapter Hall. The installation transforms the 16th-century space into a textile-led landscape displaying a curated selection of designs from leading Spanish brands.

Alonso’s installation plays with the context of its surroundings, creating a contemporary space within the historic fabric of the museum. El Salón uses a series of textile backdrops to weave together pieces by nine leading brands across furniture, lighting, bathroom and surface solutions, spotlighting the creativity, quality and innovation of Spanish design.

Tomás Alonso, founder of Tomás Alonso Studio, said: “In Spanish, ‘el salón’ refers to a large room within a house – a flexible space for social gatherings and entertaining. For Clerkenwell Design Week, we have adopted this typology, responding to the historic architecture of the Museum of the Order of St John to create a curated display of contemporary Spanish design. El Salón welcomes guests into a space devoted to exploring the face of Spanish design and manufacturing in 2026.”

Produced in partnership with design journal Disegno, El Salón will host a live conversation between Tomás Alonso and Disegno editor-in-chief Oli Stratford on Wednesday 20 May at 6pm followed by a cocktail reception.
