Once again, The Embassy of Spain in Tokyo hosts an exhibition showcasing Spanish habitat products. This year’s theme revolves around the concept of “Siesta Shift”. Rooted in Spanish tradition, the siesta is a practice that empowers individuals to “design their time” or “shape their day”. Embracing a siesta not only optimizes time management but also facilitates mental and physical rejuvenation, harmonizing with the natural human circadian rhythm.
In today’s diverse workplaces, the rapid accumulation and acceleration of information have led to a fast-paced daily life. In such a dynamic world, it becomes essential to structure and allocate time, allowing for moments where high-quality creativity can flourish, even within business contexts. Rather than adhering strictly to a conventional 9-to-5 work schedule, a more effective approach involves blending work periods with strategic breaks to enhance both creativity and efficiency.
This concept of “Siesta Shift” emerges from the approach presented at this event. Collaborating with 13 Spanish furniture brands and other products distinguished by their aesthetic sensitivity and charm, we introduce a fresh approach to time design. The exhibition seamlessly blends two realms: “Relaxation” and ”Activation”.
The exhibition is curated and designed by the Japanese architecture and interior design firm Environmental Planning Laboratory (EPL).
Concurrently, on Wednesday the 13th and Thursday the 14th, a series of seminars will take place, featuring Japanese speakers and a Spanish design studio renowned for their expertise in workplace design who will present their projects and ideas.

今年も東京のスペイン大使館でスペインのインテリア製品展示会を開催致します。今回の展示コンセプトは「Siesta Shift」です。シエスタ(午睡)はスペインの習慣で「時間をデザインする」ものです。シエスタを取ることによって心身が活性化して時間を効率的に使い、人間のサーカディアンリズムに合わせることができるのです。
今日ではワークプレイスがオフィスに限らず住宅からリゾートまで拡張し、情報スピードが加速する忙しない中で、ビジネスで上質なクリエイティビティを生みだすためには時間のデザインが大切になってきました。9時‐5時で働くだけでなく、ワークタイムとリラックスタイムを組み合わせてクリエイティビティと効率を活性化することが必要です。
こうして今回の「Siesta Shift」のコンセプトが生まれました。スペインのインテリアブランド13社がスペインらしい美的感性と遊び心のある家具などのインテリア製品をもちいて、新たな時間の過ごし方を Relaxation と Activation ２つのシーンでご提案します。
今回は日本の建築·インテリアデザイン企業である株式会社環境計画研究所様がキュレーターとして展示デザインその他を総合的にご担当くださいました。
期間中、12月13日(水)と14日(木)にはセミナーを開催致します。日本とスペインのワークプレイスに関する専門家の方々がご登壇され、それぞれプロジェクトやアイディアをご紹介頂きます。
